Bar inventory scale for liquor stock takes
A scale on its own only tells you grams. A bar inventory scale needs software behind it that turns grams into tots, per product, and sets them against sales.
What a bar inventory scale is for
A bar inventory scale weighs open bottles so you can work out how much liquor is left in each one, without pouring it out and without judging it by eye. Searches call it a liquor scale, a bottle scale or a liquor inventory scale. It is the same idea.
The scale is the easy part. Any decent Bluetooth scale reads weight. What makes it a stock take tool is what happens next: taking off the empty bottle, allowing for what is in the bottle, turning the result into tots and keeping it against the product.
WeighIt is that second half: the app and the reporting, supplied with a compatible Bluetooth scale.
A plain scale and notebook, or a scale with WeighIt
You can run a stock take with a plain scale and a notebook. This is what changes when the app does the arithmetic.
| Item | Scale and notebook | Scale with WeighIt |
|---|---|---|
| What you read | Grams | Tots and bottle-equivalent left |
| Empty bottle weight | Looked up or guessed for each bottle | Held in the app for each calibrated product |
| Working out tots | By hand, bottle by bottle | Done by the app on every weighing |
| Record of the count | Paper or a spreadsheet | Saved to the cloud dashboard |
| Against sales | A separate exercise | Variance report against POS sales |
| Between staff | Depends on each person's method | The same method for every counter |
From box to first count
What a WeighIt customer actually receives and does.
The scale arrives
A compatible Bluetooth scale is included and couriered to your site as part of the setup. It is standard off-the-shelf hardware, nothing proprietary.
Calibrate your products
For each product you weigh a full and an empty bottle once and the app stores the result. We load your product list for you during setup.
Weigh and count
Scan the barcode, place the bottle on the scale and read the tots left. Repeat for every open bottle.
What to look for in a bar inventory scale
Whichever route you take, these are the questions that matter.
Bluetooth, not cables
A scale that talks to a phone means readings land in the app without anyone typing in a number.
Standard hardware
An off-the-shelf scale is easy to replace. WeighIt works with supported scales, so ask us before you buy one yourself.
Software that knows your bottles
The scale needs a record of each product's empty and full weight, or every reading is just grams.
Do I need to buy a scale first?
No. For WeighIt customers the scale comes with the setup, so there is nothing to source. If you already own a Bluetooth scale, email us the make and model and we will tell you whether it is supported.
If you are comparing options, the questions that matter are less about the scale and more about the software. Does it hold an empty weight for each product? Does it work out tots? Does it compare the count against sales? Does it keep a record you can go back to?
What WeighIt costs
We set everything up: your products loaded from your spreadsheet, a Bluetooth scale included and couriered to you, and step-by-step guides and video tutorials for your first stock take. No subscription required.
Monthly variance report against POS sales, unlimited products and users, and priority support. Month to month, no long-term contract.
Questions about bar inventory scales
What is a bar inventory scale?
A scale used to weigh open liquor bottles during a stock take, so the liquid left in each bottle can be worked out from weight instead of estimated by eye.
Is a liquor scale the same as a bar inventory scale?
In practice, yes. Liquor scale, bottle scale and liquor inventory scale all describe a scale used to weigh bottles for stock control. What differs is the software that turns the weight into tots.
Can I use my own Bluetooth scale?
WeighIt works with supported Bluetooth-enabled scales. If you already have one, send us the make and model before you buy anything else. A scale is also included with the setup.
Is the scale included in the price?
Yes. A compatible Bluetooth scale is included and couriered to your site as part of the R7,500 once-off setup.
Does the scale connect to a phone?
Yes. The scale pairs with the WeighIt app over Bluetooth, so weights go into the stock take without typing.
How much does it cost?
The once-off setup, scale included, is R7,500 per site. The variance programme is then R4,000 per site per month, with bundled pricing on request for multi-site groups.
